what is this thing??
My mom recently passed away, and have been going thru the items from her house. I remember seeing this as a kid, and never knew what it was. It was always hung by a string from an antique hand coffee grinder. I don't see how it would be used for/with the grinder, and have no idea what it is. Thoughts?

To me it looks like some sort of weaving tool, maybe for nets or something similar. Of course I don't really know.

Lifter handle for the "eye" of a wood burning stove / heater. The slot likely fitted the control for the draft regulator,to control the amount of air entering the stove .

That’s my first thought also, that it’s a Fid of sort.

One of them is a ruler.

It reminds me of a tool to repair a heavy rope or netting. But that's just a SWAG.

Bingo! one other correct also. i remember vividly granny lifting stove top plate and stuffing pieces of split fire wood in the empty hole. I think the holes dissipate the heat some so you don't get burned.------------------------------------Ray

We must have had a MKll Mod 4 stove because our feed plates had a square hole in them so they didn't rock or tip when lifted. The "lifter" was square tipped as well.😉

That one on the bottom looks more like ours. Our stove was probably made at some point after they knocked the corners off of the wheel!

That's what I remember. Way more stable than something with a tip like the tool in the picture in the opening post. Of course there where different brands I suppose. I thought the larger hole was made to push a knot through then slide the line into the groove. But it was found in the kitchen so it makes sense it would be a kitchen tool.
