    Yep sure do remember . my grandad was a coast to coast trucker rode with him a number of times , his handle was jakebreak . he named me sundance kid and when I was in the truck with him he let me do the talkin and smokie bear checks. lol my dad trained coon dogs for people all over the us. his handle was coonhunter and everyone new him. he kept a juiced up base unit at home and loved to crank it up and get to talkin on skipland . heard him talk to people clear across the southern half of this big country. those were the days !

    I would key the mike put it close to a speaker then play a song over the CB .. Only did it a couple times just because 😁

    CB radios and 8-track tapes were state of the art in the late 70s/early 80s.

    I would be asked on the CB, "whatcha haulin today?"

    I would answer, " I'm pickenup....this load of......"

    Kinda morphed into my handle, and as you can see in the top left corner of this reply, I still use it to this day.

    I was licensed as KZR 0376 . . Ran a 500 watt linear on the base station .Daddy long legs had a 2000 watt, Palomar coupled to a set of moonraker beams . Was a React member for years .I still have 4 or 5 radios and a linear laying around in the shop

    I have not heard of REACT in years. My dad was a member in the 70s.


    I still have a box of cbs, should put one in my pickup. Handle is Zookeeper.

    Back in around ‘75, CB was an important part of my Bronco equipment one day while on a solo run in the woods. Mis-judged a situation and ended up on my side. CB was still functioning and I was able to contact a local CB’er and asked him to call my 4wd club and send help. He did and a couple of hours later I was back upright and on my way.

    I must have built them about the same time as you. My Uncles were a Butler agri. dealer and I put up many a building and grain bin in my younger days. " Fish" was my handle.

    I still have a 11 (?) channel Johnson mobile unit. For my high school printing class project I made cards with Dad's call sign and reversed the last two numbers (doh!).

    We had one stolen out of our car parked at a restaurant in Indianapolis, mom also lost her purse which she had left under her coat in the seat.

    I called myself "Hot Rod" (wink wink) I drove a '72 Maverick with a 302.

    I had a White Face Johnson, 5 channel and tube driven and a 200 watt lenier.

    Didn't need a big pair of shoes, high in the mountain and could sometimes catch the skip and talk half way around the world.

    Have no clue what I did with it, Had a "chicken choker", I gave it to my uncle. RIP.

    Black face Johnson was 10 channel.
