Remember when you would see cassettes that had been thrown out of car windows with a huge tangle of tape blowing in the breeze as cars passed by?? 😁

dreher, I picked one of those up once, took it home and painstakingly untangled and rewound it (with a pencil.) When I tried to play it, the dust and grit embedded in the tape ruined the heads of my little player. It was an expensive "free" cassette!

Their not entirely extinct. I witnessed one roadside back in Feb. of this year. I wish I'd had my camera with me, Roadkill cassette shot on Kodacolor would have been awesome.

I used to have a cassette case on the back floor of my 65 Plymouth, just full of cassettes. My cheapo tape player would mangle about 1 out of every 5. I kept a pencil in the glovebox to rewind the tape back in the cassette on a regular basis.

Sure do remember those days, but the older 8 tracks were a real head-ache to get straighten out since you had to crack the plastic housing apart.......😠. You were real lucky to get it working again.

I had a cassette player bungi corded to my MC gas tank back in the 70's with some speakers I rigged into my helmet, don't try flipping the tape at night on a dark highway unless you want to drive a few miles to the next rest stop with lights and unwind your whole upper torso from the tape... oh and a pencil would not have helped...😁

I still have a drawer full of old cassette tapes. No player to play them anymore though.
Also have a large collection of VHS tapes that I do watch on occasion from the 2 VCR's I have in use. Main problem using such old and outdated stuff is keeping the heads clean on those machines. My head cleaners bit the dust a while ago so I do my best to manually do the job with alcohol swabs.
