Looking at buying a 32-40 and my question is about the serial number fonts.

There are two serial numbers. One on the tang and one on the barrel (matching), but they are in different stamp size.

Is this normal or could it be the barrel has been replaced??

  Barrel was factory and fonts are different from tang to barrel, but all factory
