neighbors house across street just caught fire!!!!!
grandson came up and told me the house was on fire, we went out front and other neighbors were allready knocking on doors and windows though no one was home, I had seen the dad at school picking up kids earlier and the mom usually takes off whenever he has kids. took 25 minutes for the volunteer fire dept to get here and by then it was total loss, she pulled up right before the firetrucks and we had to hold her back as she had 5 dogs in the house and was gonna go get them, the fire was coming out the overhangs all around the house by then. sadly none of the animals made it and even worse she had no insurance, one of the neighbors siding is buckled from the heat but no other damage to his house. I never got along with the lady but I still would never wish this on anyone, and with no insurance I am now afraid the house will set empty with broken windows,ect for years. One good note though no was hurt or injured, sorry for the loss of the pets.........
also found out the neighbor on the other side of me is in a nursing home, as he didn't come out when the lights and sirens got here I went over and knocked on his door and when he didn't answer I called his son, his son told me they had to put him in a nursing home for mental issues. I had just talked to him last week and he seemed fine, but I guess the doctors didn't want him living alone anymore he is 83.

Darn, tragic, 5 canines lost, 😌 house and all, no insurance is a tough call. Feeding 2 less dogs could have bought some kind of insurance.

That's terrible! When I was in the fire department, I was able to save a lady's dog from her burning house. I found him under a bed, he was unconscious. Took him to the squad outside and they put an oxygen mask on him. He came to and licked my face.
The lady never did thank us.
Unfortunate for those five dogs. They must have been terrified.

I think its also way more common, insurance is expensive and sometimes its what pulls the short straw in caring for families
I watched my blazer go up in flames on the interstate and my barn twice from lightning and last was a garage noting I could do but just watch it all go up in flames . every time the fire department was just a bit late to save any thing

deputy sherriff was one of the first there, he wouldn't let us, almost got in a fight with one of the neigbors who was trying to shut of the gas at the main.

That is very sad. When our neighbors house burnt like that last year, The township tore it down within 24 hours, for safety reasons. Breaking the door down would have lit that house up even faster. That rush of oxygen probably would have made it explode or expand, super quick. When I went to fire school for our volunteer fire company, they taught us not to break windows or open an external door without laying down lots of water. We usually let the force of the water from the hose, break the windows from a distance.

sitting here now wondering what we could have done differently on the front porch watching the guys pull stuff out of house and put in trucks and trailers. Not sure if it was the right thing to do but I took a pint of crown peach over and ask one of the fellows it I wasn't overstepping my bounds to give everyone a shot out of the pint, figuring it wasn'nt enough to get anyone drunk and enough for everyone to get a shot. there were about 6-7 guys and 3 women carrying stuff from house and putting in trucks and trailers. I usually carry a hundred dollar bill in my wallet for such occasions but had just given it to a young lady last week, when she ask me for a jump in the school parking lot, after trying for 15 minutes I knew her battery had crappped itself and she was calling her husband for advice. I could tell they didn't have the extra money and gave her the $100 bill on the way back to my truck, telling her to take it and if possible some day pass it along to someone else in trouble......

By then, it was probably too late for the dogs. They most likely passed out from smoke inhalation.
A backdraft can be alleviated by proactive roof ventilation and an aggressive attack by hose teams. I only saw it successful one time during my firefighters days. And that was on a controlled burn of an unwanted structure.
No structure is more valuable than a firefighters life.
I can't fault the Deputy Sheriff. He was probably just trying to keep people safe.
