About $6.50 per dozen from the barn, the coop, under an old TV, and wherever else the crazy bitties decide to hide them. Summertime they are free and I get enough eggs to sell and keep the kids stocked. It all balances out.

I have 17 of laying age and four that are 2 months old. They should be ready to lay by April. At least I think 4 are hens. Of the five that hatched, only one is crowing at the moment. He is hilarious. He's going through puberty (rooberty?) and his voice cracks. It's hilarious.

Speaking of quit laying. One of my employees has 40 plus layers, Hellene blasted through and scared them so bad they went from 35 eggs per day to no more than 5.

Many home growers lost coops and chickens to.

    Go figure.

Eggs out in the open. At grocery stores in Japan, eggs are not in a cooler. Something about the natural barrier that is washed off in egg plants in the US.

It's called the bloom. As long as they aren't washed they keep the bloom and are protected from bacteria getting inside so they stay fresh on the counter. I don't wash them when I gather them. Hens do a good job of not laying eggs where they get dirty.

That’s how we store are eggs that we get from son in law. He doesn’t wash them, and we don’t wash them, when we need them we will wash a dozen and leave in refrigerator.

Notice commodities made with eggs took a jump, also. Hellmans mayonnaise 8$ a jar.

In this cold weather our 11 hens are only laying 2-4 eggs a day. They stay in their house most of the time and only come ot to drink or eat the cracked corn I feed them.

They are not earning their keep.
