grooved receivers on 22 rifles
What year were the first receivers grooved for scopes, and who was the first to do this?
Thanks

Mossberg model 142 in 1947, all models by 1949.

I have a WW2 'bring back' miniature Mauser 22lr target rifle that has receiver grooves that will accept 'tip off' rings BUT that was not the original or intended purpose of the grooves. The grooves held the adjustable rear aperture sight.

I have a Mauser smallbore catalog from 1931 that advertises that the grooved receivers could mount either the diopter (receiver sight) or scope. AKAH and others made mounts to use scopes on those early rifles.
