It is very interesting but I guess I'll stick with the old tried and true stuff

At ethical distances will it kill a deer or elk any better than a 7mm Rem Mag? Seems like something long range target guys and perhaps the military might be able to put to use, but not any better than any of 100 other cartridges.

Looks kind of like the old Ackley 7mm-06 or the 280. Federal's website mentions using a proprietary steel case able to withstand higher pressures than brass.
I'm not trading in my old 7mm-08 for the newest and fastest.

Interesting though I have to agree with Neo. Also if that " patented Peak Alloy case" isn't readily rloadable with standard equipment it will be a total flop IMO.

A steel case to help handle the pressures. Not a good thing.
Chamber wear and extraction issues.
Special powders required that is most likely not available to a reloader.
Factory ammo probably require a bank loan to acquire.
That does not impress me.

I had read in the past and believe true, that the rifle is only as strong as the cartridge case it self. If the case is not reloadable I don’t see a future for it in the civilian picture, military maybe. Time will tell.

from what I understand about it is the performance from a 16" barrel that is what is impressive for those guys that want a suppressor without having 3 foot of barrel including the suppressor

less powder ( than magnum cals) , means less ejecta means less recoil.
80000 psi is serious,

Sure don't want to be to close to that much psi if something goes hay wire.

It's an interesting concept, no doubt. I'll stick with the standard stuff running standard pressures, but it should be fun watching for what they come up with in the future. A .223 or similar running 80k+, I would think you'd be creeping up on the .22-250 or .220 Swift at that point.

WSSM cartridges were a novel idea but they had a few issues and weren't a lot faster than the standard cartridges. I bought a Winchester model 70 Featherweight in 25WSSM which I still have. I can say this for it, with a 110 Accubond it is deadly on a Whitetail. I also bought a couple of other cartridges that didn't really catch on, a 300 RSAUM and a 308 Marlin Express. The 300 Rem Short is a good round but the 308 Marlin with the lever evolution bullet is a great round in their lever rifle. Like I stated in an earlier post I guess I'll just stick with my 7mm Rem Mag, it is all I need for my type of hunting.

WoW! All the critters I harvested with my Ruger .308 purchased in 1969 would have lived three nano seconds longer before they would have perished if I had used this new whiz bang which undoubtedly destroyed more edible meat than my old classic.

Like you, I never saw any need for a round bigger than the .308. Never owned an ought-six or any other long action round.

I believe the military has to keep tabs on round count for their chain guns because of issues with metal fatigue, I wonder if a rifle action that has to withstand 80k psi will have metal fatigue issues?

People often mention 'need'. Needing (or not) faster, needing bigger, needing etc.
Since when does "NEED" have to affect interests or wants? It's fun to have, use, experiment, etc. For centerfires, I've currently got from .17 Rem to .458 Win Mag, eventually will have a .50 BMG for no reason other than I want one. I will likely never hunt in Africa so I doubt I'll ever use my .375 H&H or .416 Rem Mag for hunting either. I do use my .45-70's often and reload loads up/down as I want for it. Makes it extremely versatile.
I agree they often come out with new stuff just to sell new stuff with no or very little appreciable gains.
There are some that do make a difference, even if slight that I never got into such as the E-Tronix or short mags. I do try to stay away from ones that might be not be available for long. This one does sound intriguing, but also concerning. I wouldn't be an early adopter…

Kind of like fishing. A lot of fishing gear and lures are made for catching the fisherman rather than for catching fish.

To me, 80,000 psi sounds like a fabrication of their imagination. And I don't think the average guy has any way of verifying it.
