'75 Colt Det. Spl. loose wobbly cyl. release

Very sloppy "rolling" up or down (clockwise/counterclockwise), an also sloppy left to right horizontally.

Comment is invited.

There is a local smith that I may take it to, but if any of you have similar experience, I'd appreciate your input.

What holds it in place?

How can this be fixed?

  The latch rides in a groove in the side plate. There is a spring that puts pressure on the latch. You may need a spring.

  By comparison to most, the Colt has a pretty loose fitting cylinder release.  If there's spring tension front to back it's probably OK.  Kind of difficult to reassemble incorrectly and have the thing still function, or the sideplate sit flat.

  Thanks fletch for the input. The trouble is it's so loose that it has scratched the finish on the sideplate.

  The gun isn't perfect but it is nice. I'm trying to tighten it up to keep it that way.
