So what's at your bird feeders today?? I got the usual birds plus an unknown.
Today, in the normally warm Upstate South Carolina, our day started out in the high teens. Now, at 10:30 it is up to 40 degrees.
At our feeder are Tit Mice, Purple Finches, Chickadees, Cardinals, Chipping Sparrows and an unknown. The unknown is a little smaller than a Chickadee, and did a manuver I hadn't seen before. It landed upside down on the feeder perch. Than slid around to the top of the perch to peck out some seed.
Any ideas on what this bird is??
In the back yard as I type this, a large flock of Brewer's Blackbirds just flown in and there are a couple robins hoping around. Also, always in the back yard, are House wrens, Carolina Wrens and a Thrasher.
Thank you Lord!! Life is good!!

That'd be my first guess.

Have had all the usual suspects show up today - cardinals, house and yellow finches, chickadees, nuthatches, bluejays, red breasted, downy and hairy woodpeckers, junkos cleaning up the dropped seeds and that darn Flicker came back to scarf down about a half a suet block! The birds sure are happy I got that "massive" increase in my Social Insecurity! Bob

Just a couple (2-4?) hummingbirds wintering over. Been bringing their feeder in at night for the last week so it doesn't freeze.

On 2nd thought, Chickadees are known to hang upside down sometimes… but it sounds like you know their markings.
