Because of typical gov't efficiency, I think it is still there. Heck, 67 years later and they can't even agree if it was armed with a plutonium core or a dummy. I wonder how long it can stay submerged before it degrades into a "harmless" radioactive blob? Bob

Eventually the government may get around to it. My son's company is working on a project for the EPA cleaning up a secret submarine refueling station off the coast of North Carolina. The more they dig, the more bad stuff they are finding.

It sure seems like somebody (If not us) would have tried to salvage that. Maybe someone else already has 🤨

I'm pretty sure it's not off the coast, a little more inland, this comes from a deceased friend that was a original search team member and yes it was a Hot bomb but no triggering device armed.

Jan 24 ,1961 Had two Mark 39 h bombs hit the ground a few miles from me . (eastern nc ,Goldsboro)

Never recovered all of one of them. All the safety devices except one failed so we were one $2.00 switch away from doomsday !

    Then there's the U-864 spewing mercury. But that's Norway's problem….mostly.
