28 ga shot shell cut down to hold a measured 80gr charge will do in a pinch0 -
+1 on 28 ga i use a 410 hull cut down for powder charge measuring 0 -
I've used the end of a horn before. Start with the amount of powder you want, pour it in and mark the spot. Then either cut or just pour to the mark. I usually just use an adjustable measurerer. 0 -
A 5ml vial measured at the 5ml (2nd. line from top) is so close to 80 grains I don't thnk you'll know the difference.[:)] 0 -
a empty 45-70 cartridge holds 75 grains[;)] 0 -
i use film containers or torche tip containers, i premeasure at home maybe 20 or 30 and take them to the range or field for hunting. no need to measure u already did that at home just open container pour down barrel, fast and easy 0 -

According to the Dixie Gunworks catalog the following cartridge cases hold the following grain weight of blackpowder (bottleneck cases like the 30-06 are cut off at the start of the shoulder): 45-70=75, 30-06=70, 30-30=42, 45 Colt=42, 44-40=41, 38-40=40, 45 auto=28, 38 Special=24, 30 Carbine=20, 32 Long=15, 32 Short=10 22 Long=5, 22 Short=2. Using a combination of cases should get you very close to 80 grains. 0 -
Sounds like a full 30-06 casing is about 80 grains from that post...
