Hello All,
I had a hell of a shock today. I went to the sheriff's office to get a concealed weapons permit. I was filling out the paperwork. Long story short THIRTEEN YEARS AGO I plead guilty to 4th degree assault. The gal at the desk told me that I can not even own a gun let alone carry one! I thought back and remember the judge saying that my gun rights were revoke for 2 years. Obviously it is not an automatic restoration of my rights.
I have the packet for petitioning the court. I am looking for an attorney in the Seattle area to help me out with this. Does anyone know anybody?
I want everyone that cares to know what caused me to lose my rights. I had an alcoholic girlfriend back then that i did not live with. I was working the swing shift. I went to her place after work one night she was drunk. I was mad. I started taking beer opening it and dumping it down the sink. She got violent and started hitting me etc. I took a beer and opened it and squeezed it out on her head. THAT'S IT. I went to jail for it and 13 years later I have to fight to get my gun rights back!!!!!!!!
I'm pissed. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Submit the packet to the court? Maybe do what it takes to get the record corrected? Dude, You know what you have to do, so do it. 0 -
The 2nd Amendment Foundation is headquartered in Bellevue. If they cannot help you, I would think they could point you to an attorney who could.

I helped a friend's son through this a few years ago. It was a fairly long process, but it is really about the money.
'X' number of dollars makes you eligible to vote. '2X' dollars makes you eligible to vote and restores your 2nd Amendment Rights.0 -

I am not familiar with any cases where the judge puts this kind of time limit on your loss of gun rights, upon a conviction. Probation?
Maybe there is a bit more to the story? A 4th degree assault is a misdemeanor, which has a maximum penalty of up to one year in jail. Which, in and of itself, does not disqualify you from owning firearms. By chance, were you convicted of "domestic violence" along with the 4th degree assault?0 -

sounds like it was a "domestic" and a PFA was issued. PFA are usually good for 2 years. 0 -
