James, obviously I don't need one such as yours because I am not trained like you, but I have been first aid/CPR certified up until 2005. What supplies should I have for a "bug out" first aid kit or possibly two kits, and be as prepared as I can be for the most extreme situation I could handle?

You say you live in a trailer? What relative/friend would let you live with them? You must be very pitiful for them to put up with such an ignorant SOB. Which one of them taught you to use the internet? Wish they would have taught you about Mozilla (it has the spell checker you so desperately need as a primary school dropout). How long did your potty training take, or are you still accomplishing that lofty goal? Can you even understand/comprehend when words are spelled correctly instead of phonetically (fa-net-ick-lee: spelled in a way that represents the sounds made, usually not correct). Have you figured out the difference between the Revolutionary (big word, probably should have sounded it out for you) and the Civil wars yet? Here's a hint: start with the years they were fought and work your way out from there....0 -

Have you had any trama training? Know how to do sutures? KNow how to make an emergency airway (out of a ball point pen in a pinch) for someone going into anafalactic shock (bee sting, reaction to meds or food)?
Any of those things you DON'T know how to do, can be easily learned.
If your first aid training is nothing more than band-aids and calling EMS, might I suggest a little reading material?

No training beyond cuts (tourniquet is the extreme end of that) bruises, sling a broken arm, splint a broken leg. CPR/rescue breathing. Red Croass first aid/cpr course, annually from '95-'05. Very basic.0 -
JP, I am going to recomend the book "Ditch Medicine" by Hugh L. Coffee. This book is printed by Palidin Press, and may be avalible elsewhere. I would suggest getting in a couple of advanced aid books, or even a first responder coarse through the local fire department or EMS. This coarse, with included practical training, shouldn't cost you more than 150 dollars. If you join a volunteer fire dept., this training mayt cost you nothing. I recomend the First Responder training HIGHLY.
This training explains WELL what you ought to have in a kit (they sometimes call a jump kit).
Your kit(s) should contain:
Pain Meds like advil, tylenol, asprin.
Typical first aid stuffs, like baid aids, ointments, medical tape, ect., ect.
Trama/wound dressings in assorted sizes 4x4's, 3x3's, large wound pads, MANY rolls of Kurlex, large absorbant maxi-pads, a few tampons, ect.
Also should have things for burns (like burn-gel and more than a small pack or two like the first aid kits).
You should have a Blood pressure cuff and stethiscope.
Sutures and lidicane.
Antibiotics.
CPR mask
Gloves
Antiseptics for wound cleansing.
Saline solution for wound irrigation and eye wash.
Iodine.
Granulated sugar for wound care.
WOW, this is getting to be a big list. And if you think building one or two are cheap, think again. A kit like I make costs big bucks, but you can build them for half or less. Mostly less.
There is more than what I listed in a kit, but hopefully you get the idea. A kit isn't a replacemnt for a hospital, but IF a hospital isn't availible, these kits can and DO save lives.0 -
Besides, FA/CPR, I'd recommend picking up on basic surgery, there are quiet a few reference out there, one book which is MUST have is "Gray's Anatomy". Sawing someone up can be fun [:D] 0 -
Melkor, what is antibotic? I think you have an unrealistic fear of bot flies. As you continue into adolescence (a-doh-less-ens: the period of growth between puberty and adulthood) this unfounded fear of bots should dissipate (lessen or go away).

She's a basic right now. She's in nursing school (finishes up this semester) right now, plans on getting her Paramedic certification in a couple years 0 -
