compact 1911's
I like buying off brand guns when it comes to pistols I might not keep or shoot a lot. That being said, I'm lookin at gettin a compact 45 and not sure which one to seriously look at. It WOULD NOT be a carry weapon since my Glock 23 has that position filled quite nicely. I've had to send back STI's and Kimbers and so the sermons about the quality of high end/big dollar 1911's just quit sinking in and I'm all about getting a low end and building it up. I've also considered a Springfield compact variant. I'd like to hear a bit of feedback on it.

How do Kimber's, Springfield's, and Colt's compact 1911's stack up.
Mostly interested in reliability.
I have been looking at Colt Compacts, CCO, Officer, Defender.
Not as familiar with Kimber and Springfield.
Consider 3" to 4 1/4" slide maximum and not looking at the Commander.

Darin...can't give you a "comparison" but:
I've been carrying a Colt Commander Lightweight for a lot of years and wouldn't trade it for anything.
Mrs. Mudge's carry gun is the Colt Defender in Stainless. She loves it and it's easily concealed.

i have a kimber ultra ssp 3", and it runs fantastic, feeds swc's, along with anything I put into it, the dual capture recoil spring worked out a lot of the problems they had in the past 0 -
Like Mr. Mudge, I've been carrying a Series 70 Lightweight Commander for about 30 years.
That having been said, I really don't think you can go wrong with a Colt, Kimber, or SA.....they're all high quality firearms. All of them are well made and reliable....worth betting your life on.0 -

I have a Springfield Custom Loaded, stainless Ultra Compact and a Kimber Ultra Carry II. Both are exceptional pistols. I think the Springfield measures up to the Kimber in every way and it is my favorite carry pistol. The Kimber is sweet, but I feel comfortable with the Springfield.
Both are very reliable and feed anything I have fed to them so far. My Springfiled has a 3 1/2" bbl, and the Kimber has a 3".
You couldn't go wrong with either in my opinion.

Have both a Colt Lightweight Officer's (series 80) and a Kimber Ultra Carry (blued), while both are fine pieces, I'd have to give the nod to the Kimber. The attention to detail (fit, finish,) together with factory ramped barrel and better snag-free sights give the edge to Kimber... Quality control and customer service over at Colt just isn't what it used to be.

I have this kimber and a kimber pro elite Both are great 1911's both will feed anything and always go bang!. These are some of the best without going to a pistol smith to have one built. Just my .02

I've got a Springfield Micro, it's accurate, super reliable and real comfortable. Will never let it go.[^]
