    "Flat band" refers to the front band (nearest the front sight). In The Winchester Book it is noted that "during World War II, a lack of sufficient machinery for civilian arms caused Winchester to use a flattened front barrel band; this variation began in the 1,400,000 range and continued to number near 1,460,000". The "flat band" is very easy to spot when compared with the normal well rounded band usually found on the Winchester. WCF means Winchester Center Fire as noted above, 30WCF = 30-30.
