Caring for a nickel finish?
I just picked up a SW 29 with a nickel finish. I never had a nickel gun before. Is there anything different than cleaning and taking care of a blue or SS gun? Do you polish it ???? Its NIB and even unturned. Will probably just store it until I can't take it anymore. Thanks.

Don't use Hoppes #9 on it!! Also be sure whatever solvent you use has no ammonia in it as it will etch the nickel. I put a coat of wax (Simmonize) on mine. Helps give the nickel an even nicer luster. For cleaning I use a detergent based solvent. If you can find a stash of G.I. surplus solvent get some.

And, be sure to store it properly in a safe with a Goldenrod or dessicant.
I recently had to perform last rites on a nickel Python that had been stored in a lockbox, zippered in a gun rug. Less than 10% of the nickel remained.

Saxon....seen you over there looking at that model 29. Figured I'd let you have it and didn't bid. LOLOL
Thanks for the info all.0 -
Yeah, Hoppes will really attack the copper that the nickel is plated over, if there's any thin places.
I use a layer of Flitz on mine- protects well, and is durable. Shines the hell out of the plating, too.0
