The 16 was a neat little autoloader made from 1914 until 1928-was outsold by the winchester autoloaders which it closely resembles-also- many were made for 22 Rem auto, which was more expensive than reg 22 ammo.Value around $250-300 in excellent cond. D and F models were worth considerably more. Your friend should take gun to reliable gunsmith to see if it can be salvaged. Numrich(Gun Parts Corp.) still lists some parts available for this item. I hope your friend is able to bring this 16 back to life!

Bore is probably ruined by now. As a gunsmith, to fix it I would cut the barrel off behind the obstruction. Then bore it out to half inch. Then take a piece of good barrel and turn part of it to half inch to fit into the original barrel, as a liner but with the outer part a diameter to match the original. Rechamber the barrel, install sight/s. Shoot. Guestimate 4 to 5 manhours. Whether the gun is worth the cost -- that is the question.

This gun shoots the Winchester 22 Automatic.Someone had a batch made up and it's available for about $12-15 per box.
