I remember back in the late 1980's and early 1990's there was a product from KAL-GARD Coating called Gun Kote which you sprayed on and then baked in the oven. The finish color was VERY close to Colt (a bit too dark) and I knew plenty of gun show dealers who made a pretty penny by revamping old magazines and selling them as new. The only information I have is KAL-GARD Coating, 16616 Schoenborn st., Sepulveda, CA 91343. This is many years ago and I have no way to know if they are even still business. Hopefully someone else has more current information for you.

Durable? Hardly. Just handling them in the original plastic envelope abrades them. In use, you quickly get down to a yellow-green layer. At least they are aluminum and won't rust. Don't worry about how they look.

That grey finish is solid film lubricant. Not very durable. If you want to have a good-looking finish on your mags, wipe them down well with alcohol or mineral spirits and spray a coat of Brownells Aluma-Hyde on. It'll match the finish on your gun and last for years.
nmyers is really right, though. That yellow-green is the anodizing that's put on before the solid film lubricant. Lasts forever, doesn't look too pretty.0 -
I just got a can of it last week. It's " PERMA-SILK " Solid film lubericant. It's from , Georgia Precision, (478) 994-4560.. Cost was, $16.00 + S&H I ues this on the INSIDE of the mags, and use what Rocklobster said: ALUMA-HYDE, Works and looks good!

Honestly I would advise masking the top and bottom of ur mag during coating and not spraying any on the inside, not sure, but may effect feeding. I don't really know if it would but I wouldn't do it.
If I'm wrong please correct me, I won't be offended.

Why would you spray Dry Lub on the inside of the mag? It would help things move better ( spring ) and ( follower ).. You NEVER put oil in the inside, it would hold dust, dirt, and what ever. If you have a new mag in the bag, ( AR15 / M16 ) You can stick your finger down it ( the mag ) and you will get a coating of something on your finger that would be a dry lub, I know some that just spray the spring, They say it works.. I can tell a BIG difference on my old steel M1A mags when I do this. When at Camp Perry, years back, I bought some used mags. They were reconditioned buy this guy, and a lot of people were buying them and used them with no problems.
