M44 Mosin Nagant, 7.62x54R
Can anyone tell me anything about these? The good, bad or ugly? What to look for or what to stay away from? Thanks!

these are very good rifles for the price, highpowered, reliable and very stout, dont pay more than $120 for one unless its in pristine condition. 0 -
You won't go wrong by buying one. They're cheap, ammo is cheap. They kick hard, but it's like eating spicy food, you get used to it. You can abuse them and not feel bad. Purists may disagree. 0 -
Same message as the others, durable ,reliable, cheap ammo and don't! pay more than $120.00 this is for one in excellent un-issued condition it will still have some cosmoline to clean up though. There is a seller under the handle of MP5 on gunbroker who will sell you one of these for that price and it will include shipping. 0 -
You can get two of them for that at Big 5. 0 -
good, ugly rifles.a real blast to shoot(literally), especially at night. tremendous muzzle blast! barto
the hard stuff we do right away - the impossible takes a little longer0 -
I would recommend to find one with matching numbers if you can. At a local gun shop, in a lot of about 20, only one had matching numbers, Polish Nagant appeared unissued, paid $89.99. As far as the hard kick, I slip one of those ugly brown rubber wussy pads on. The only downfall of the rifle is -- I still haven't located the safety. Were they made without one? Someone please let me know.[This message has been edited by just-shoot (edited 03-31-2002).] 0 -
Pull the "cocking" knob to the rear and twist. Thats the safety. 0 -
Well I'll be, not the easiest thou to operate, or I must have the strongest spring inside my bolt. Thanks Tailgunner 54. 0 -
I thought the same thing. I couldn't get the safety to work until I disasembled the bolt and cleaned the cosmoline out with solvent. It's still not easy, but do-able.

I was thinking about picking one of these rifles up as a bang around the woods gun. How do they shoot? Are they accurate at 50-100 yards? Is ammo readily available? What kind of ballistics does this caliber offer?Any input would be appreciated. 0
