FYI CASE FORMING 30-06
LOOKS LIKE 3006 case are good for more then just 3006.[;)]
i knew i could use 30-06 case to make
8mm mauser ,
but didn't know there were so many other ones out there, that can be made from 30-06
300 sav,
6mm
25-06
22-250,
257 roberts
270 win
7x57 mauser
7.65 belgian,
308 win,
35 whelen,
358 win,
my book states 243 from 308 cases but i have found a few 243 that have 30-06 stamped on the face AND some military case that have been formed to 243.

You forgot 250-3000 Savage, it was one of the first. Newton came up with the 250 Savage in 1914, shortened and necked down 06 case.
W.D.0 -
I've got two Calibers on that list, .308 Win and .35 Whelen A.I, and am wishing on the third - .257 Roberts A.I.
What about .35 Rem ?0 -
You forgot the 280Rem, 7mm-08, 260Rem, 270Win, 7.65 Argentine (same as the Belgium) and 7.7 Jap along with just about every other Mauser 12mm (.473) rimless beltless cartridge that's shorter than 63-64mm in length. While it's possible to make a lot of these from the -06, the availability of the 308Win length cases reduces the practicality somewhat (why go through the extra work?)
Handload,
the 35Rem has a smaller rim and base diameter than the Mauser family.0 -
didn't forget them they just were not in the old RCBS printout i found,
but thanks for adding more to my list, think ill start keeping my 3006 case instead of trading them off [;)]0 -
I think i'd stay away from making 7.7 Jap from '06 brass. Real risky. 0 -

be sure to anneal any 06 cases when using that brass to make other cals if you do not then in time to come the case necks will split call work hardening -1 -
reading a review on midway about lapua 30/06 brass. the guy said something to the effect of "yea the brass is expensive. but so far ive loaded it 9 times, only needting to trim it once. and once its not good for that i can cut it down and use it for my 45 acp"
is that true? wouldnt the brass be to worn for them? if not couldnt you cut it down to other 45 cals? 45lc, 454, ect...?0 -
Josh
While you could cut it down to 45ACP or even 45GAP, the Colt and Cassull cartridges you mentioned are rimmed (of course with a lot of machining you could thread the base than make a rimmed collar....)
Of course if that guy would anneal the necks, and set his sizing die properly, he could make his brass last for 40-50 reloads, and than form it back to one of the x57 cartridges, shoot it a few more times before turning it into 308Win. After that, trim it back to make 44 Auto Mag cases before turning it into 45ACP cases [:D]0 -
Would be fun to have a box o .45ACP, all with Headstamp 30-06!!! 0 -

gotta have a reamer of some sort to thin the walls, I have tried it.
Sort of off the subject, but most of my "30-06" cases began life as 270 and 25-06 that were carefully lubed and stretched, trimmed to length.0 -
You forgot 9.3x62 That's a 1905 case and it will sure form out of a 30-06 case. 0
