brass polishing?
i just recently bought some 308 brass it is really dirty would you use corn cob media or walnt to clean the brass? which one to polish the brass?

walnut to clean Corn cob to polish But I prefer Rice the cheapest bulk stuff you can buy to polish it also does a fairly good job of cleaning one thing to do both jobs.[:)][^] 0 -

How often do you change the rice? can you get multi uses out rice ?

Use the rice till it gets dirty. I mix a polish such as the one Midway sells. I learned about rice about 5 years ago here on Gunbroker and have been using it ever since. Buy the cheapest small grain rice. 0 -
Yes you can use it until it gets dirty/grungy it leaves a very light almost like motor mickea dust on the outside nice and smooth that delays tarnish also. 0 -
I use either rice or the corn cob used for hamster bedding from the pet store.
I use it with a tablespoon of NuFinish car polish each load.
When the brass gets to where I can feel "something" on the cases after a few hours of vibrating I throw it out and replace it with new.
I have 85 50 BMG cases tumbling as I type this and will put 85 more in tomorrow AM.
One tumbler holds 50 and the other holds 30.
I will have done 11 batches by Sunday AM.
Should get me through the winter for BMG.
Then I start the 7mm WSM cases.

I put some ground walnut shell in with the course walnut, does both clean and polish. I buy my crushed walnut shells from the feed store, lots cheaper than anywhere else. I use Midway brass polish, works great for me.

I use crushed walnut for bird cages. Feed stores, pet stores, ect have it. It is cheap, and seems to last a while. I use the Isso polish put a few drops in it every once in a while. I have started putting used dryer sheets cut up in with the batches. They get filled up with all that little dirt floating around. 0 -

I am convinced that additives do nothing but gunk up your media and leave an ugly gray plaque on your brass. Getting that plaque off by hand defeats the whole idea of tumbling. Plain media only for me - and it lasts three times longer that way, too. 0 -
If they are really dirty, try putting them in a bowl of vinegar for about twenty minutes. This will bring them back to nearly new. 0 -
