    REVINKEVIN,

    Welcome to the Gunbroker Forums!

"I completed the break-in just like I have read about. The ammo I used was Winchester 150g Ballistic Silvertip with the moly coating."

Barrel break in, if you believe in that as a separate process, is never done with Moly Coated bullets since that defeats the effects of the break in process. Lack of accuracy can be attributed to a couple of dozen variables that you haven't addressed, not the least of which is the shooter himself.

Personally, I would start from the beginning and scrub all of the Moly out of the barrel being sure that the bore is spotless. I wouldn't bother to shoot Moly again in this rifle. Then start a ladder development for loads. Your twist rate will handle any of the standard bullets up to and including the 180 grain bullet lengths.

One method of comparison is to use an established, quality target ammunition to get a good baseline for comparison. This could be Federal Gold Medal Match or one of the Black Hills Match loads.

Ammunition manufacturers don't want to publicly support extended long range shooting of game or varmints. That's why the charts stop at 500 yards. You will probably need to use some ballistic freeware available online to develop those charts for longer ranges. Some of the shooters are using the 175 gr. Match bullets but you will need to look at something like the AMAX for long Range Varmints or the Berger Hunting VLD bullets.

You need a good test bench or rest to keep the rifle steady during testing.

My current load for competition .308 Win. is a the 155 gr. Lapua Scenar over a full charge of IMR-3031.

    Best.

Hey. Thanks for the info. I will just use all of my 150g moly ammo for my AR-10. It seems to like it fine. I found this site that had some good information. http://www.snipercentral.com/matchammo.htm
I don't really want to just buy match ammo, as I want to use this for hunting. I want to get it set up for the ammo I am going to use. I found this ammo and I think it might fit the bill. http://www.hornady.com/store/308-Win-165-gr-SST-Superformance/ I don't know if anyone has any experience with it, but if so, I would like to hear about it. Thank you.
