7.62X54 brass case
I cut open a brass case 7.62x54 surplus rd. It had a thick red plastic liner inside. Why would they have that ?

Special purplse loading (reduced velocity?)
Can you put up a photo of the sectioned round, can/box markings (if possible) and the headstamp?0 -
Don't have any pic. All it has stamped is P c ?? thanks 0 -
Well, I cross posted it here: http://iaaforum.org/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7328
Let's see what they come up with.0 -
Something else I forgot about. The primer pocket has three holes in it unlike the others two holes ? 0 -
A munitions guy from Germany thinks it was origionaly a "gallery" load (reduced power, indoor target load). 0 -
That is interesting - was this a fired case, or did it have a bullet? With a plastic lining, I think you would see effects of firing if it had any powder in it at all.
Maybe some kind of CB round? (just a very light bullet over a primer only?)0 -
I fired the rds. They all went bang just like the steel cased ones. Didn't check any cases at the time. I only cut a couple on the lathe because I had a project to use the brass. The plastic is like shot shell hulls & it will not come out in one piece. Only have a few cases of this ammo left. Maybe be a good round for that old nagant??
