What competitions can I compete in?
Ok, I'm very confused about all of the different types of competitions out there. I am a rifle shooter and I would like to shoot in competition but I'm not sure where to start. I would like to shoot in a rifle class where I can shoot as-issued military rifles. I especially like to shoot older bolt actions and I have an Enfield No.4 mk2 I would like to shoot. I also have a Swedish Mauser, a Garand, an M1A, a couple of Swiss K31s, and I'm building a like issued AR-15. I prefer to shoot with iron sights and I like the idea of some of the vintage rifle competition matches but I don't know if the CMP or the NRA has any matches where you could be competitive with an as issued Enfield or Mauser etc. I am about to move up to Ft Rucker in Alabama and would like to shoot in the area. I also want to shoot in some form of competition that is sanctioned at a national level so that if I get good at it I could have to ability to advance to bigger matches. Any info on all the matches and what kind of equipment is eligible for them would be very appreciated.

One more thing. My fiance really enjoys shooting as well. Are there womens classes she can shoot in or would she have to compete with all of the boys? Thanks. 0 -

Max, I know I personally luv shooting Military Rifle Bolt Action Metallic Silhoutte matches. Your guns would be perfect for that type of match. The problem is that not many ranges have the yardage to shoot them. It's chickens at 200 yds, pigs at 300, turkeys at 400 and rams at 500. I know I have to drive 72 miles to the shoot these type of matches, but to me, it's worth it !!!! 0 -
Max it sounds like the CMP matches are exactly what your looking for.
CMP events are geared around Garands,Springfield's and vintage military rifles.0 -
Thanks for all of the info guys. Anybody know about woman's classes? 0 -
Well, up in the "General Discussion" forum, there seems to be red-hot competition to be the most bigoted, most homophobic, most fanatic or most paranoid. But I don't think you'd stand a chance in those races.
What's that? Oh...shooting. Ahhh. Never mind. What the other posters said. [;)]0 -
maxoverdrive be aware there are many WOMEN SHOOTERS the CMP UNLIKE THE NRA does not have the shooters divided into classes. women take coaching very well and sometimes progress faster then men ....[:0][:p]when it comes to shooting on matches and they do have a physical advantage in the prone position.[}:)][:I][:o)] 0 -
Sometimes?
Women will kick the mens behinds every time.
Its just the way of things..0 -
