Mag Primers OK???
Is it OK to use small pistol magnum primers for .38 spl and .40 S&W rounds?

That takes a two-part answer.
Performance-wise, reduce your usual load by 5% and test with the new primers. Work back to your original load's velocity, if required.
Gun-wise, magnum primers are sometimes harder to ignite - so your gun might not fire them at all if the firing pin strike is light for any reason.
If they fire and you carefully work back to no higher than the usual velocity, you should be fine.0 -
I would also tend to shy away from the super fast powders like Bullseye. A recent article I read gave me additional caution for substituting mag primers with fast powders. A full case of medium to slow powder did not seem to be an issue. 0 -
