BSA Sweet 17 Scope
I just got a BSA Sweet 17 scope in 6x18x40. I sigthed it in at 100 yrds.as instructed and zeroed the windage and elevation knobs.I then re-checked the 100 yrd zero and it was good. Then I dailed the elevation knob to 200 and shot a group. It shot a 1.5" group but it was 7.5" high.At 300 yrds it was not even on the paper. It shot over the target completely.Im shooting a Marlin 17 HMR,using Federal ammo.I have checked it over a chrono and it is very consistent at 2600 fps.It was about 90 degrees F. and my elevation is 4300 ft.Also I was using front and rear sandbags. My scope is 1.6" above the bore center and Im using Millet high rimfire rings.Does anybody have any idea what is wrong with this picture? Maybe the wrong elevation turret?Andbody else have any experience with these scopes?

I put a BSA air rifle 4X12 on a 10-22 I built. The piece of S#^T wouldn't hold zero for love or money. Peddled it quick and got a Simmons 4X12 air rifle and put on it about 10years ago, and have not had to change zero setting as yet. It's as clear as any Leupold I've seen.
You dialed it to 200 and shot high and at 300 not on paper, could be wrong turret. But with the problem I had , I will never buy another BSA [V]
Air rifle are built tougher to take the recoil both ways, not just rearward like rifle scopes. The BSA I had was just PURE JUNK [:(!]0 -
Mine works fine on my Savage 93 what grain bullet are you using the 17 or 20gr? I have not tried mine above 2000' and air density IS something to consider.

If I recall, Air rifle scopes are built differently to handle forward recoil from a spring as opposed to rearward recoil like a .22... That would explain why it was junk real fast. I know Its not the greatest scope in the world but for plinking its not bad for the money.0 -
also the distance above the bore is a factor, is it possible to use lower rings? 0 -
Have you tried to zero it at 100yrds, then DON"T touch the scope and shoot at 200yrds? Are you about 6 inches low then? Sounds like the scope is holding zero fine....1 1/2 " groups at 200 is decent, but it gets "stupid" when you ask it to range change. bob 0
