Load for .38 special
I need a good load for .38 special using bullseye and 158gr. lead bullet.

3.5gr. of Bullseye should give you about 815fps. depending on your barrel length. 3.9gr-874fps. 0 -
My Lyman book says start at 3.0 grains of Bullseye with a 158 grain lead bullet. Maximum load is listed as 3.4 grains of Bullseye. The Alliant Powder web site also lists 3.4 grains of Bullseye as maximum with a 158 grain lead bullet.

The new numbers, with the "new" Bullseye, might be 3.4 - but there have probably been more than a million (perhaps several million!) rounds loaded and safely fired with THE classic load of 3.5 Bullseye. In any decent gun in good condition, that's still a great load. I get right at 850 fps with it from my 4 5/8" Blackhawk. 0 -
3.5grs of Bullseye has been the standard for years, I've used it forever without problems.

I have loaded the .38spl since 1974. I have always used 3.5gr of Bullseye. Never had a problem! 0
