PRIMERS: MAG or NOT??????
Hi everyone; I need some help on primers. I haven't loaded the .357 mag in quite a few years, and am considering using my SP primers instead of paying a million bucks for SPM primers! I always used LPM when loading .44 mag, but never used SPM in the 357. Do I REALLY need to purchase the magnum primers for the 357 round? I know the books call for it but, is it REALLY that important? NEVER had any trouble years ago using just the SP primers. Thanks!!!!!

Depends on the powder. In general, unless a LOAD calls for a mag primer, no you don't need it. 0 -
With a large amount of slow powder in a hunting situation (it may be cold) it would be a good idea to go with the SPM. For light to moderate loads with a faster powder at the range for fun, no. 0 -
loading with Unique, Red Dot, blue Dot and the like.... SP is fine. Loading big charges of 2400 might shoot better with SPM. 0 -
I load W231 on top of standard small pistol primers and have not had any issues with my .357mag loads. 0 -
Thanks fellows! It seems my SP primers will be just fine until prices come back down to earth! 0
