ar 15 load

i want to use 55gr fmj bullets in an ar with a 1 in 9 twist. can anyone tell me a good standard powder to use and give me the minimum and max loads. i have a dillon press and it does not like extruded type powders. also any good books or websites that give different loads for this gun. i buy standard reloading books and they all want to load for bolt type rifles.

  Try AA-2230 or BLC-2. Both are ball powders that meter very good.
  I use 27grs of BLC-2 or 25gr. 2230

  I think 26.0 gr of AA-2230 is a little stout for plinking or anything else for that matter in an AR and 55 gr pills. I shoot that powder and use no more than 24.5 with commercial brass and 23.5 with military. The new Sierra manual has a great section on AR's and other military type actions that explains the reasoning, mechanics and processes necessary and gives loads for gas guns specifically, in addition to the regular bolt section.

  I agree on the AA2230 loading. I've not gone over 25 grains and am getting around 3200 out of the 24.5 grain load.

  I'm just starting to reload myself for an AR15, and I was going to try H335 and Varget to start. I read on the Hodgdon's website that H335 started out as a military powder for the 5.56 NATO round.

  H335 25.0g 55g bullet. Accurate in every 223 I have ever shot and I have shot a bunch.

  I use what I consider to also be my most accurate load using 55 gr. bullets (Hornady V-max) in my .223 bolt rifle...24 gr. of AA2015XMR for a velocity of 3150. You can load that hotter, up to 24.5 gr. but you need to work that up for your rifle. I also use 23.8 gr. behind a 60 gr. V-Max. for a velocity of 3100.
  
  This powder meters very well as it has very small kernels. Also, you might want to look at using the newer H4895 Extreme. This powder {(edit:) varies} 50 fps from +90 to -18 deg. F. It also meters very well as it has much smaller kernels than the older H4895.
