Has anyone made their own media separator?
Since I've spent all of my allowance this month already, I'm thinking of making my own media separator tomorrow, and I have a few ideas, but was looking for some input from anyone who may have already done this. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Chris

I made mine out of some cheap plastic bowl. Drilled pretty good sized holes in it and it fits right over the 5 gallon bucket. Works great. 0 -
I haven't made one yet but probably will sometime this year. Cheap plastic bowl would work well. Just go around the house and look around for anything that might work. I've got a crap load of thick, heavy carboard boxes and I've thought about drilling holes in that and seeing how that works. I've also got some thin, cheap wood that I've thought about making a small box out of and trying that. Got any holiday candy/popcorn tins? Those would work depending on the size. I actually use a few of those for storing brass. How about one of those big plastic tubs ice cream come in? Those even come with a handle. No need to go out and buy one. Lots of things should work, just let your mind go wild. 0 -
Torpedo, the cardboard doesnt work. At least the way i tried didnt . I failed miseribly with that one. 0 -
Used a plastic bowl to fit over the tumbler it worked, heaver the better. New to keep the burr's down or it blocks/catches the media. Bought one gold paning style not impressed with it either. 0 -
Make a frame out of wood and tack hardware cloth to it. 0 -
Buy a cheap plactic kitchen colander and enlarge the holes. Mine cost a buck and 1/2hr labor. 0 -
I came across an aluminum basket that came out of a "Fry Daddy" deep fat fryer. It has 1/4 inch holes like a colander but a flat bottom so it will sit up by itself. Works great. 0 -

I used my wife's colender. Guess I should have ask first! 0
