I've always used bullseye in the 4 to 5 grain range. What works best in your gun will be somewhat dependant on how the gun is set-up. (or not) If it is a standard 45 intended to digest 230gr ball ammo, some of the lighter loads will not function the gun. There are different recoil springs available to accomodate light loads/light bullets. (brownells) It's mostly trial and see what works for your situation.

XX Cross gave you a very good answer . Some people use very light loads of bulls-eye 3.8 grains with the 185. grain bullet but unless you have a very firm grip and built like a tank the gun will not function unless you use a lighter then normal recoil spring. A quick way of seeing if the load is too light is load one round in the magazine upon firing this one round the slide should lock back if the spring is light enough.
