223 wssm brass question
I have 150 brass cases. All of them are winchester head stamp but are from several lots. Looking down the necks you can CLEARLY see the thickness of the brass is very different. After shootng several test loads I have noticed that not all the bullets are seated same. Some are very tight and some appear to have a very slight gap. I think it is a result of neck tension and has to do with the brass thickness ( just a guess) I am using RCBS dies. Just to confirm this I took three of " tightly seated bullets" and they shot .52" and three of the " looser seated ones" shot just under 2" all loaded at the same time. Was there different thicknesses used on the wssm brass? Is there something I should know to keep all the tensions the same that I have failed to do??

A case neck reamer should take care of the issue. 0 -
Neck tension will vary because of the different thickness of the brass. A ball micrometer will tell you exactly the variations when you measure 3 to 4 places around the neck. An outside case neck turner can even out the variations so that all brass is the same thickness. You will need a bushing neck sizer with the proper bushing(s) to obtain the ideal sizing for the best neck bullet tension. Accuracy will be improved by having brass all the same. 0
