LUP vs. PSI
is there a direct corelation?

If you mean CUP vs Psi there is a chart somewhere that translates the data, maybe NONONSENSE knows. 0 -
LUP, Lead units of pressure
CUP, Copper units of pressure
LUP is/was normaly used in low/very low pressure rounds, IE shotgun
CUP is/was normaly used in metalic cartridges.
There is a coralation, but not a direct conversion between the metalic units and PSI. Denton Bramwell has done a fair job of working out a "close, but not perfect" formulia between CUP and psi, but I don't remember him, or anyone else, working on a LUP coralation.0 -
burdz19,
No, there isn't a direct correlation or formula for direct conversion. The only thing that I'll say is that there is a relationship. Here is the paper:

Thanks gents, just confusing seeing some of the reloads (12 ga.)listed as LUP and most others as PSI
nononsense, great info thank you again!

burdz19,
You will see a continuation of the trend towards listing pressures in PSI as opposed to the older, antiquated CUP or LUP. This progress stems from the manufacturers doing computer simulations and calculations as opposed to testing every single load and variation. Those loads that are actually tested are analyzed with a Piezoelectric sensor which reports in PSI as opposed to crushing a copper or lead slug and measuring it. C.I.P. has been reporting in PSI for many years.
