Rem Model 1100 Ejection Problems

Sporting Clay shooter here having problems with my 12 ga. Model 1100 Shotgun. Been shoointg SC for 3 yrs now with an older 1100. Bought it new 30+ yrs ago. Gun is in very good condition. I bought a new Rem Choke Barrel just for SC and I do keep the gun thoroughly clean between shoots.(usually 100-125 Rds/shoot) This past summer I started experiencing ejections and recently feeding problems after first clean shot. Most of these problems occur after approx 40-50 rounds into a 100 rd day. Out of the 100 or so rounds I shoot, I'm getting roughly 5 to 10 ejection/feeding problems. I only use 2 3/4 #8's w/1200fps Rem/Fed/winchester shells. During the summer I had the Gas Rings and rubber seal replaced. I keep the gun clean, gas ports, barrel, trigger mech etc. Any similar problems or somthing I'm missing or need to do? Any help appreciated. Lou

    I had a similar problem and it was the interceptor switch. It is located on the inside of the gun on the opposite side of the ejection port at the bottom. The part was inexpnesive. I think it cost me 80 bucks and that was having a gunsmith put it in. I don't know if this is your problem, but it might be worth a shot

    Remington 1100 problems?? I addition to what others have already told you, you might try these ideas also: Be sure that the magazine tube is free of any rust or powder residure on the outside. Most of the time I use a piece of steel/copper wool to remove any burned powder from the outside.

    Next, turn you attention to the inside of the magazine tube. Take the spring and plug out and then use a brush wrapped in steel/brass wool to make sure the inside of the tube is also clean. Rust sometimes seems to accumulate inside the tube??

    Good luck with it--usually IF kept clean, they are like the "Timex" watch--"takes a licking and keeps on ticking"!!!

    Forgot to mention!!

    Be sure that the inside of the chamber is clean and spotless. I often use a 10 ga. brush for the 12 ga. chamber or a 12 ga chamber brush. If really dirty--use a drill motor and oil with the brush on slow speed.

    I had a friend that had trouble with his Remington and I asked him if he cleaned the barrel? He said YES, but come to find out, all he did was run a patch through the barrel with no special attention to the chamber. As the shell fires, it expands and IF the sides of the chamber are dirty, it will "grab" the sides of the shell and make ejection harder.

    I just recently repaired a Rem. 1100 for a customer who was experiencing some of the same problems. #1 the Action spring was bad, #2 the action spring follower was bad. the older rem. 1100 shotguns came out originaly with a aluminum action spring follower, and each time a round is fired, the action link that goes into the follower wears real bad grooves into the aluminum follower. Check and see if your 1100 has the old style aluminum action follower. If so replace it with a steel one. They don't cost much. And a new action spring isn't costly either. #3 also check the action link for wear and tear. Goodluck[8]
