Cool gun, I like them a lot. I've never reloaded for my 300 Sav. yet. But I think any good 150-165 grain bullet would be fine, I like the RL-15 because I'm using it in other cals now. If you need actual data I can get a book out later, some say only use flat base bullets because the neck is rather short, I wouldn't believe that. Are you going to scope it or use the iron sights?

Skyfish; present plans include replacing the the Tasco scope that came with the rifle with a Weaver K4. Thanks for the information it gives me a starting place. I've been looking for one of these rifles for a long time

    I have a 99 love it

I use 4895 and any 150-165-180gr bullet that I have at the time ussually noslers BT's or Partitions

It doesn't have to be a tack driver to kill deer IMO mine will shoot MOA at 100 yds with any of the above bullets and a medium hot charge of 4895

    reddnek,

    Good rifle, good cartridge choice!

The best powders I've found are XMR-2495, IMR-3031 and V V N-135 in conjunction with any of the quality bullets in the weight range of 150 gr. to 165 gr. For deer hunting, there's no need to go heavier. Shot placement and bullet construction for the attainable velocity will determine which bullet.

You will need to do some testing to get the best information about what loads your rifle likes.

If you need a starting point, refer to any of the current or slightly older reloading manuals. Each of the powder manufacturers has reloading information and data on their websites.

    Enjoy the process!

    Best.

I have an old Rem 760 made in 1954 (I was told) in 300 Savage, absolutely love the gun cartridge combination. Super deer rifle! The 300 Savage gives little away to the 308 Winchester. Favorite load is IMR 4064 with a 150 gr Nosler partion spitzer. Leaves the muzzle at about 2600 fps. This is a max load, so do NOT start here.
