cheap 22lr will it come back?

does anyone know of any cheap 22 ammo that is standard velocity? also should i just wait for a while to look as everything currently is being purchased rather fast and seems more costly then it did couple of years ago. most of the time i was buying standard 22lr ammmo for $100 to $130 for 5000. is there any out there like that any more. is the ammo prices going to come down and why did it get so high? is it because the lead prices went up? i heard that they have come down alot now and wondered if anybody thinks that ammo will come back down or do you think standard 22lr will now average $200 to $300 per 5000?

Cheap ammo of any kind is GONE. No such thing exists. Prices will increase with the new year. Part of the reason for the increase is lead/metal prices, gas to transport all the materials, power for the factory ect have gone up. Suppy and demand has also been a big factor. With 2 wars, China, and India supply of the materials has tightened, rasing prices. While some things have decreased in price recently, companies have no real reason to decrease the price. They've already found out that we are willing to pay the high prices. Reloading can help reduce costs, but it's tough to reload 22LR. With the way prices are going, I'd say if you find $200 per 5000 rounds you should probably buy it. 0 -
22 LR ammo has gon through the roof recently. A year and a hlf ago when we opened up my shop we had Remington Golden Bullet 500 round bricks for $10.99, now the same brick is $19.99. Find what you can and buy in bulk, it'll only be increasing 0 -
For those of us who are old enough to remember, there have been a couple of "panic buying" in the past, in the early 70's and late 80's. Prices went up as people kept buying and until the air went out of the buying frenzy. When it was over, the prices never came back to where they were and this time will be no exception. The price has been pushed up and even if raw material prices go down, the price of ammo will stay up unless people just stop buying until the ammo makers are forced to lower the prices to sell, and that will not happpen. I'm not saying that some of the price increases was not justified but the panic market took over and drove the prices even higher. Its human nature and the market working together. my .02 anyway. 0 -

Seems about right.

Either we are heading for hyper-inflation;
Or a depression. By the middle of next year, a box of .22 might be .60 cents.
It also may well be ten dollars.
NOBODY...right now...knows. The huge sums ripped off the tax-payers will creat a situation that will make America unrecognizable by next Christmas.
That being said...I gave 40 cents a box for LR back in 1960.
A couple years ago, I bought at .75 cents a box. That was 45 YEARS between those dates..and the inflation rate over those years FAR exceeded 100 percent on everything else.0 -
Hurry up and go to walmart before it goes up. I went the other day, and they had Federal bulk boxes,550 rounds, for 13.87. That is the only reasonably priced 22lr I know of, and I have looked too.
That is $126 per 50000 -

Reckon I have been lucky. That is the round I used in my Henry .22 to shoot shotgun hulls at 25 yards with.
Old feller I shoot with (72) knocks off 3 out of 5 every set..sometimes more.0 -
Whether the Federal .22lr stinks or not, it doesn't matter as Wal-Mark (locally) is out. They say it is on order; they also say they have no idea when it might be back in stock. The only .22lr ammo they had in stock was a few cartons of the 330 count Federal and it was almost $14.00. 0 -

I have not had accuracy issues with it, but I have more than a handful of duds out of every box. It just annoys me a bit0 -

I doubt I would use this stuff for fighting a war...but then, I have other rifles for that.
Jacking a round out now and again ensures that my clearing drills and skills remain sharp....[:D][:D]0
