.223 and 5.56
Can I use the same load data for .223 in 5.56 cases. I read an article in The American Rifleman magazine that says you shouldn't
do it because of increased pressures in the 5.56 cases with .223
loads because the outside dimensions are the same but the inside
dimensions are different. So I took some commercial Winchester and Remington cases and some Lake City military cases and weighed each one, then filled them with water and weighed them again. The difference in the weight between any of them is one tenth of a grain. So what gives? I have alot of military brass I hate to dump,
unless I can find loads for 5.56 cases. Can anyone help me on this
one?

Are you loading for super accuracy in a "target" gun or are you loading for some fun shooting in a semi?
If you are shooting target then you will not mix head stamps anyhow. Then start with a base load and work it up from there.
If you are loading for some fun shooting I just load all the same but you will get differences between your loads. When "blasting" for fun 1-2 MOA is fine for me.0 -
Military case = 23.5 grains of AA2230, top with winchester (or other) 55gr fmj. Shoot all day for pennies a round. 0 -
I use H4895, and I don't think you can blow up anything with as much as you can get in a case. 0 -
I'm not loading to shoot the wings off a gnat at a hundred yards,
mostly loading for fun and home protection. So long as I can hit
what the sights say I'm going to hit.0 -
Just stay away from max loads and you should be OK. 0
