    i'm on the hunt for hulls that take a #57 and/or #157 primer. i can use 12/20/28/410 ga hulls

    Of course it is. That is exactly what they were designed for. Magnum primers help to ignite large amounts of slow burning powder more uniformly, especially when it is cold out.

    I think what your asking is, Weatherby recommends Federal Magnum Primers, are the CCi Mag primers okay. Yes they are, just work up your load.

    Absolutely they are OK to use. I used to think primers could be chosen by what was available in my cabinet till I found a 7mm Mag that grouped better with WLRM primers than CCI and a 22-250 that grouped better with CCI than Federal. No knock on Federal; they have a great reputation. It made me realize primers are just another variable to be worked out along with powder, bullets and seating depth.
