.45acp loads
Finally have all of the tools to start reloading on my own. I am not completely new to reloading, as I did quite a bit of it when I lived at home with my folks(on dad's setup), but haven't gotten my own loading tools until now. Anyways, I picked up a couple of pounds of W-231 and some 200 gr. LSWC bullets to start out with. Anybody have a good petload with this combo that they would like to share? Thanks,
Jon

I load 5.0gr. of 231 for IDPA. When I shot USPSA, I loaded 5.5gr. to make major. You can statr with 4.5gr. and go up .1gr. at a time and see how they eject and feed in your 45. It will depend on how heavy the recoil spring is. 0 -
DCS gave some good advice match the load to your recoil spring you want it to cycle the slide far enough to lock the slide back after the last round without beating up the gun. I suggest a taper crimp to .469 at the case mouth . Set the OAL by taking out the barrel and adjust seating depth by seating bullet so it will allow the case head to set .010 inside flush of the hood of the barrel. 0 -
Jon. dcs shooters load is what I started with when I started reloading .45acp... I use WLP primers, 5.0gr. 231, 200gr Laser Cast LSWC, OAL of 1.245. Mine go thru a Taurus PT1911 and work just fine. Good luck, and I'm glad you are able to use the press. Be safe! reloader44mag. 0 -
Thanks guys. I am going to be reloading for a couple of different pistols(Sig 220 and HS 1911) so hopefully I can find a load where they both shoot and function well.

I load a lot of 45acp. I use a 230-gr Lazercast RNL on top of 5.0 grains of Unique.
I piddled around with many different powder and bullet combinations and decided that Unique is the most widely available in this neck of the woods.
For my 38 spl, I can load 125-gr SJHP's with 5.0 grains of Unique and get very respectable groups, too. So every time I load a few hundred 45's, I go ahead and load some 38's, too.0 -
For that load what is the cleanest buring powder you could get. Been hearing a Shotgun powder is the best. 0 -

I've used 5.0gr 700X with a WLP primer and a 200gr Laser Cast LSWC bullet with a OAL of 1.250 and have had very good results.0 -
one of the cleanest powders out there are those made by Vetivori "spelling[:I]" the 320 is great for 45ACP as is the 310 & 340. 0
