Scholastic Shooting Trust

I wanted to introduce our organization since its something that is of interest to most of you here. The Scholastic Shooting Trust is a public charity designed to raise and distribute money to university, college and high school shooting teams. Most of these teams are underfunded and need the help of their alumni and community members to support them. The Scholastic Shooting Trust is designed to provide long term funding by investing the donations and paying out earnings to the teams. The Scholastic Shooting Trust is part of MidwayUSA Foundation, which was formed by Larry and Brenda Potterfield to support shooting, hunting and outdoor sports.     Very worthwhile endeavor, it's at this level that many students with the potential and background to become shooters are misinformed by extremely liberal teachers and professors. There have been too many rifle teams abandoned by the colleges and high schools that once had them back when there was no bias. I have seen a growth in the shotgun shooting sports in many high schools around here and noticed that it takes an effort on individuals affiliated with a gun club working with volunteers from the schools, that are usually concerned parents, to get it going. Hats off to Larry and Brenda for their efforts; from the looks of their growing family it's going to benefit them also

    Of course, its money that drives the programs. We'll have to combine our efforts(money)and support these programs for them to be successful. There are less than 45 teams that compete in the NCAA rifle competition and that number changes frequently as schools eliminate teams to re-allocate athletic funds. The University of Missouri-Kansas City eliminated their team after the 2006-2007 season in favor of tennis, I believe. Shotgun teams compete on a club basis and, although gaining popularity, they are largely funded out of the student's pockets, with a very few exceptions, and competition is only sanctioned at the national championship level.

    For competitive shooting programs to gain prominence, attention and shooters, they will need money. Most likely that money will have to come from alumni and local communities and those that support shooting sports. It will be up to individuals and the combined efforts of many individual to make a difference and it can happen. That's why the Scholastic Shooting Trust was created. www.scholasticshootingtrust.org
