Light loads for 45-70
Anyone have any favorite Light loads for 45-70 (don't like guns that hurt from both ends anymore!!)

13 gr of Trail Boss or about 25 gr of XMP 5744 are mild and fairly accurate- and safe even for a trapdoor (if in good condition). 0 -
A bit of H-4895 will tame that old shooter down a little.....
50.0 grains with a 350 grain bullet isn't so bad....0 -

Other than highjacking litetriggers thread, what's your point ???
H-4895 is the best light load powder there is...

I have shot these light loads out of a friends 45/70 and they are truly wonderfull. Very light recoiling with little to no muzzle blast, light enough to let a youngster shoot them just so he can brag to his friends that he shot a Buffalo Gun.

You might try 15 or 16 grains of IMR 4759. (with any weight bullet) 0 -
For a super accurate, mild recoil load try 29 grains of Reloader 7 with a 1 to 20 cast 500 grain bullet and CCI standard primer. I have several 45-70s that shoot this load into a single ragged hole up to 100 yards. Another load that is nearly as good uses 385. grains of Reloader 7 and a 405 grain cast bullet. I find that accuracy drops off fairly rapidly as bullet weight goes below 405 grains. 0
