I recently bought an Encore in 45-70 and am wanting to reload some heavy lead bullets. Im reading in most of my manuals that gas checks are required. Are the gas checks needed to fill the powder cavity to ensure better ignition, or is there another purpose? Do I just use one per cartridge? What about lead bullets with the copper gas check on the base, are the other paper gas checks still needed? Thanks, Todd 0 -
45 ACP 1911...just to clarify 0 -
No you don't have to use gas checks with those bullets. The throat area should be short enough to prevent gas blow-by so you should be fine without them. 0 -
Not unless the bullet is designed to have them, which I doubt those are.gc bullets have a 'heel' at the base for crimping gc's onto.
Even then you could prolly shoot them at acp velocites without any problems.0
