Whoohooo!!!
I just landed 3, 5gal buckets full of lead wheel weights from a local tire shop. I figure each weighs in at about 200# each.
Now the question,
Littleton shot maker?
or
the better shot maker?
Littleton's website has very little info (alot of picture's) maybe i have the wrong place?
anyone use the better shot maker?

are those the "lick n stick" type, that all the performance wheel guys insist on having?0 -
the stick on ones are pure lead, mainly. The zinc LOOK like any other but 'ting' when you drop 'em. They have a higher melting point than lead so I just throw the lot in a smelter and as soon as MOST are molten, lift off anything that hasn't melted- zinc included.
As to which type of shotmaker, they both look like they do more or less the same thing. I don't shoot enough shotgun to make casting shot worth it, but would say the ww buckets make good cast pistol and medium velocity rifle bullets. THe pure lead ones shouldn't throw off the hardness enough to matter for shotgun.0 -
Oh the better shot maker only uses 220 apparently so if you don't have a spare 220 outlet..... just a thought. 0 -
Have used both .
The better shot maker is the best unit , but remember that it is 220 .0 -
Oldawgp,
I use a Littleton, but I feed it out of a pot of melted cleaned wheel weights using an old plumbers ladle. Works good for me.
Happy pouring.

I have some scrape aluminum that i was going to build a ladle out of and install dripers from one of the u[on for mentioned makers.
heat it with an old camp-chef I rescued from the dump and feed it with a pot like you do.
that is if i can build it without going over about 50% of what a new shotmaker would cost0
