Critique my first purchase.....
As I've mentioned before, I'm getting into reloading. I saw this kit on another thread, looks like a good deal.
LEE RELOADING PRODUCTS BREECH LOCK CHALLENGER KIT (W/ BREECH LOCK CHALLENGER PRESS) $89.99
http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=0000690030
"ABC's of Reloading" recommends a turret-style press, and I've seen mixed reviews of the challenger press, particularly when loading larger cases (I'll be loading a lot of 30-06) so I thought I'd pick this up on the side
LEE RELOADING PRODUCTS CLASSIC 4-HOLE TURRET PRESS $90.97
http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=0000690064.
Finally, I'm guessing I need one of these kits for every type of round I load
LEE RELOADING PRODUCTS CLASSIC LEE LOADER 30/06 SPRINGFIELD $16.00

What else do I need?

I would start with the Challenger and get dies for the '06, and other calibers you load for. You can always upgrade to a turret press later. You don't need the Classic Lee Loader unless you want to use a plastic mallet to load with it. 0 -
face it, with time, your room will look like this, with all the different dies for different bullets. just surrender to the idea now.[:p]

case lube, calipers.dial type is fine...scale,safety glasses, bullet puller for misteaks, case trimmer,.
I'd go with as sturdy a press..read cast iron...as you can afford since rifle ammo is your prime directive.I started with a Challenger and it's ok,but there are better ones, even from Lee.0 -
Rack ops,
Take a look at these this link is for Midway but I am sure that Midsouth sells this kit also

I have the classic 4-hole turret. I like it alot but there are better presses out there. I have loaded 45ACP, 44mag and 50AE on it with no problem. I just fell into a great deal on a RCBS JrII and 2 Herters single stage presses that look like they would handle 50bmg with one finger. Will be setting them up this weekend along side the turret. 0 -
Its too bad that Lee doesn't allow a substitution in the Anniverary Challenger kit... 0 -
I've loaded quite a few 243 and 204 on the challenger press but the Classic is cast iron and a sturdier unit. What you need to load each and every caliber is a set of dies for that caliber. Here's an example but there are alot of different brands ant types.

What the hell is it?0 -

ohhhhh.......
I thought it was odd that it was located in the "presses" section. Does anyone actually use those?0 -
Does anyone use those? Years ago when I was a kid I used to sit at a picnic table and pound together some 38 Specials. They do work but thats about it. Haven't used one since. Dave 0
