Need a clean powder for 12 ga
I have been shooting some 0 & 00 Buck shot and 1 oz slugs with some HS-6 powder and recently with Blue dot. (using a 12 GA Mossberg 500 24'' rifled barrel 2.75'' hulls) I have found a bunch of unburned powder in my barrel after i just cleaned it, both powders leave a fair amount of powder in the bore. Is there a cleaner powder i can shoot for my heavy loads that is better on my gun??? Any advise would be greatly appreciated thanks,

Do your loads shoot good? I like bluedot for my cast 540 sabots. Clean burning and slow for mags seems like you are asking for a lot. The only clean shotgun powder I remember was Super M Balastite but it was for light loads. 0 -
Try Win.WSF or 571 or. 0 -
Can you still find Winchester 571? They say, whoever they is, that Hodgon HS-7 is the same as Winchester 571 and loading data is the same. Anyone else heard this? 0 -
Unburned powder is different than a "dirty" powder. Some unburned powder is normal in shotguns. A dirty powder tends to leave a lot of carbon fowling and deposits from combustion. Please be careful in thinking the powder is dirty. The higher the pressure the more complete the burning will be. It is not uncommon to find unburned kernels or flakes of powder in mild trap and field loads. 0 -
Thanks for all the info i will try the Win powder. 0 -
I would try blue dot. 0 -
Try some IMR SR 4756 and 800X. They are my favorites. 0 -
800X would be excellent. 0 -
the clays line from hodgdons will burn 10x cleaner than all the above listed powders

Also when reloading primers make the fire if the primers are week as are most of the cheapies you will have alot of unburned powder left behind.
Use win, cci, fed, rem 209's and you will have no problems0 -
Tinman, Try looking at Hodgdon Longshot powder. I use it exclusively for all of my heavy "Back-up/ Buddy Shoots" and my duck goose reloads and it is great. Clean, hot and burns w/o question in hot or cold weather. IMHO!!!
