HS-6 and HS-7 powder
I have heard, or read that Hodgdon powder HS-6 is the same as the old Winchester 540 and HS-7 is the same as the old Winchester 571 and that the same components and load data can be used. Is this a fact? Thanks for any info.

I've also heard the same thing about H-110 and Win 296.
Wheather it is or isn't, best (safe) advice is to follow manufactures data. I realize 540 and 571 is not manufactured anymore, and you may have a "pet" load you would love to duplicate, but safety first.0 -
The burn rates are close, but I would use the Hodgdon load data. 0 -
I have several old manuals that list these powders . Email me from profile if you think some period data might be helpful. 0 -
Thanks to all for the info. Will look at all suggestions. 0 -
It isn't what you hear, it is what you can get from the horse's mouth. From the Hodgdon website:
"HS-6 is identical to Winchester's discontinued 540."
"HS-7 is identical to Winchester's discontinued 571."0 -
TO HAWK CARSE: Appreciate the info. Am going now to look at the Hodgdon web site. Good news to me as I do have some favorite loads based on the old Winchester 540 & 571 powders. Again thanks to all for the feedback. Best Regards Terrill. 0
