I've also heard the same thing about H-110 and Win 296.
Wheather it is or isn't, best (safe) advice is to follow manufactures data. I realize 540 and 571 is not manufactured anymore, and you may have a "pet" load you would love to duplicate, but safety first.

The burn rates are close, but I would use the Hodgdon load data.

I have several old manuals that list these powders . Email me from profile if you think some period data might be helpful.

It isn't what you hear, it is what you can get from the horse's mouth. From the Hodgdon website:
    "HS-6 is identical to Winchester's discontinued 540."
    "HS-7 is identical to Winchester's discontinued 571."

TO HAWK CARSE: Appreciate the info. Am going now to look at the Hodgdon web site. Good news to me as I do have some favorite loads based on the old Winchester 540 & 571 powders. Again thanks to all for the feedback. Best Regards Terrill.
