Hornady/StoneyPoint OAL Gauge
I have a Stoneypoint OAL Gauge. They do not make a 25-06 Ackley Improved case for this tool. So i need to take one of my fired cases and Drill and Tap it so it will fit on my OAL gauge. Question is...Does anyone now what Thread per inch it is, and the diameter? I think i need a 5/16-36 Tap. Any help will be appriciated. Thanks in advance!

Send them 2 fired cases. They will make you one and send both back to you. They ask for 2 so one can be used if the other is not suitable for rework.
Just costs a few more bucks than the "stock" ones.0 -
konamtbiker,
That's what you need. You may need to get one at a machine shop like I did. Or send for one.
Or, what I've done in the past is use the parent case. Just remember it's .004" longer than the Ackley. So you should subtract the .004" after you take your OAL measurement.0 -
konamtbiker,
Since you're in gunsmithing school, I'd buy the tap and have at it. You'll never have to wait on anyone for a comparator case again and it is infinitely cheaper to be able to make your own on demand.
If you end up with your own shop you'll find yourself less satisfied with what's available in the marketplace and end up making a lot of your own tools and fixtures. This is a good start.
