.357 mag primer question
is the small primer mag. the only one you can use for that caliper?

I've always just used small standard primers in mine. Never seen the need for mags. 0 -

Some powders used in large quantities may be a bit more consistent with magnum primers. I use federal standard sm pistol primes in loads using unique, 231, blue Dot and other relatively fast powders. When loading heavy charges of ball powder or 2400 I will use a magnum primer.
I have plans on doing a lot of chronograph testing this summer on just that issue; primers, mag vs standard, rifle and pistol. I will post the results as soon as I get all the testing done.0 -
If the loading data for a particular powder says to use a magnum primer, use them. I violated that rule once and got some squibs that left a bullet lodged in my barrel. Good thing I wasn't gangsta firing at the time. 0 -
used titegroup and the spp primers worked out alright 0
