First Loads...Just shot...Question...
Well I just got done loading some 6mm remington loads for the first time. I used some brand new brass, CCI bench rest primers, 42 grains of H4350 with Combined Technologies 95 grain ballistic Silver Tips. My groups at 80 yards are better than my factory loads. There was a slight resistance when locking the bolt with my reloads. Is this OK? They seemed to fit a little more snug than the store bought partitions...????

If you did not size the cases first they may be a bit large. Once you have all the cases shot in the gun remove the bolt guts and size a case with the die clearing the shell holder by about the thickness of a nickel. Clean the case lube off and put the shell into the gun. See if the bolt will close with just the smallest amount of resistance to the last few degrees of movement. You want to adjust the die so the bolt closes on a sized case easily but no more. If you screw the die in about 1/4 turn at a time until you get that fit plus 1/8th turn more you will have the die set to that rifle with enough shoulder room to allow for brass spring back..
Lord I hope that makes sense.0 -
Safe to shoot all 50 rounds? 0 -
Yes, as long as there is no resistance felt when opening the bolt. Once you have the brass fireformed to the chamber you can just neck size untill the brass stretches, then set the shoulder back like bpost says. 0 -
Is it normal for store bought brass to be a bit big? 0 -

I have found it to be inconsistent more that large. You may have a very tight chamber. That is not a bad thing.0 -
Thanks for the help[:)] 0 -
I have a 6mm Rem in Ruger m77. I have done what the above posts says and it works on mine. I too get 1/4'' MOA groups at 80-100yds but i like to shoot 80-87 gr bullets for paper punching, 95 for hunting. I did push a 55gr to 4000 ftps[:)] and great accuracy rnd too. 0 -
close the bolt on a live round,..remove the round and see if there are shiny marks on the bullet from the rifling. If so,..seat them a bit deeper and retry. I fond most new brass to be undersized more than oversized. 0
